A stator in which the crossover has a spherical surface is a new concept in the design of
stators for multistage pumps. In this article from Poland, Professor Janusz Plutecki and
Dr Janusz Skrzypacz of the Dept of Mechanical Engineering at Wroclaw University of
Technology discuss the creation of a numerical model of the flow in this innovative pump
stator. The computational results obtained using Fluent 6.0 are compared with
experimental data from measurements of pressure and velocity by laser Doppler
anemometry and flow visualization. The possibilities of using CFD code in industrial
applications are discussed.
